Ascend AI Developer Summit MindSpore Forum—Building a Source of AI Innovation
On May 6 and 7, the Ascend AI Developer Summit 2023 was successfully held in Huawei's Songshan Lake base, Dongguan. With the theme of "Building the Future", the summit brought together the pioneers of the Ascend AI industry. At this summit, the MindSpore open source community hosted a forum that centered on open source innovation, providing a platform for developers to exchange ideas on achievements of open source AI technologies.
Li Yongle, general manager of the Huawei computing open source business, attended the forum and delivered an opening speech.

As a next-generation open-source AI framework, MindSpore develops rapidly, and the MindSpore community has become one of the most innovative and vigorous open source AI community in China. The number of MindSpore downloads in the community increases rapidly, with a total exceeding 4.51 million. More than 13,000 developers have contributed code to MindSpore and more than 5,500 enterprises have built application solutions based on MindSpore. Moreover, 240 universities have offered MindSpore-related courses, and more than 40 research institutes have conducted innovative native AI researches based on MindSpore.

Comprehensive Upgrade of MindSpore Technologies
Driven by technological development, MindSpore's technical architecture is continuously upgraded, which evolves from conventional deep learning to large-scale distributed parallel computing and converged computing and provides native support for foundation models and scientific intelligence.
At this forum, Ding Cheng, general manager of the MindSpore business, introduced the industry's first AI convergence framework, MindSpore 2.0, which integrates AI and high-performance computing capabilities, greatly improving the scientific computing capabilities.

He Luwei, technical owner of the MindSpore foundation model platform, introduced her practice on the platform. It is the industry's first one-stop platform for developing foundation models that leverages elastic scheduling of computing power across AI computing centers. The upgraded version of the platform has optimized functions and modules, sparing developers from concerns over computing power during foundation model development.

Preferred Framework for AI Innovation
MindSpore is committed to Al innovation by natively supporting underlying capabilities such as foundation models and scientific intelligence.
At this forum, Yang Yi, associate researcher from the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, shared MindSpore SPONGE, a molecular dynamics suite developed based on MindSpore. MindSpore SPONGE provides functions such as molecular dynamics simulation, protein structure prediction, and small molecular property prediction and design. It provides a complete set of program frameworks and tool libraries for molecular science, helping pave the way for AI application in molecular science.

Zheng Qinkai, research assistant from the Knowledge Engineering Group (KEG) of Tsinghua University, introduced the MindSpore-based CodeGeeX foundation model. This free AI coding assistant is a multilingual code generation model built on top of proprietary AI frameworks and hardware. As a best practice of a foundation model in code generation, CodeGeeX is fully open-source and supports code generation, completion, translation, and one-click comment adding.

Attracting Open Source Developers for the MindSpore Ecosystem
Attaching great importance to developers and technologies, MindSpore values developer requirements and growth. In this way, MindSpore attracts many excellent developers to build a competitive open source community and gathers scientific research and industry talent.
Liu Bingzi, director of the communication dept. of the OpenI community, delivered a keynote speech focusing on how the OpenI community contributes to the development of the Chinese AI open source ecosystem. She introduced the significance of the OpenI community and demonstrated the cooperation achievements of the community and MindSpore in the development of the Chinese AI open source ecosystem.

Wang Zhenbang, a student representative of Wuhan University of Technology, shared his experience in using MindSpore as a developer and user, setting an example for developers to contribute to the MindSpore community.

At the Kunpeng and Ascend developers' night held on May 6, the OpenI community won the 2022 Ascend community excellent partner award, and ten MindSpore developers won the 2022 excellent MindSpore developer award.
