MindSpore Monthly Newsletter (June 2022) | Building an Open Source Ecosystem with 1.94M+ MindSpore Users

The year 2022 is halfway over, and it has been an exciting six months for the MindSpore community. To better collaborate with our partners and community developers, we are going to publish the monthly newsletter, letting people know our latest updates and events, and then to boost the MindSpore open source community. Here are some highlights in June. 1. Community Scale By June 30, the MindSpore community has earned 19,600 stars. As a community dedicated to openness and transparency, MindSpore steadily builds a robust open source ecosystem, with continuous member improvement. Currently, more than 1.94 million users are actively contributing to the community. We have witnessed an increase of 7% in June. Over 18,000 developers have raised 20,000 issues and submitted 48,000 PRs. As of today, 338 developers have been certified as MindSpore outstanding developers and evangelists (AI advocates). This certification was awarded to 22 developers in June. The group will continue to work for a vibrant open source community. In addition, MindSpore continuously supports education, research, and production innovations. Statistics from Papers With Code indicate that MindSpore-relevant papers ranked second globally in the second quarter of 2022. 2. Community Activities In June, MindSpore held multiple activities to enable developers with rich learning resources. We look forward to more AI enthusiasts to join MindSpore and build more AI applications powered by MindSpore. 01 College Activities In June, MindSpore has held MindSpore Study Group (MSG) events at Northeast University, South China Normal University, and Nanjing University of Technology. Besides, we conducted AI courses for both beginners and advanced learners, attracting 361 university teachers and students. MindSpore will develop innovative practice courses and provide AI open source enablement to teachers and students all over the world in the future. 02 Enterprise Activities Three MSG for Enterprise events were held in June, which attracted a total of 573 enterprises, including JD, iQIYI, ByteDance, among others. Continuing to grow the enterprise ecosystem in the AI sector, MindSpore will maintain the development of core AI technologies. 03 Community Events Ongoing events: MindSpore Open Source Internship Project, Ascend AI Innovation Contest (Ascend Track), Open Source Summer 2022, China Software Open Source Innovation Contest (Ascend Track), and China Open Source Scientific Software Creative Contest (Ascend Track). Currently, more than 300 teams (including students, enterprises, and other users) have participated in these contests. 3. Community News The community is working with Ascend to build an integrated native ecosystem. MindSpore has made several technical breakthroughs, enabling the development of AI applications in multiple industry sectors. MindSpore is working with Institute of Plateau Meteorology, CMA, Chengdu and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China to build China's first precipitation nowcasting foundation model Rongcheng.KuiNiu. It is expected to enhance current meteorological prediction capabilities and benefit the whole society with accurate natural disaster warning and public event insurance. Beijing Jiaotong University and MindSpore jointly developed the Tianyou foundation model, a model for efficient rail transportation maintenance and security. 4. Partner Ecosystem By June, MindSpore has cooperated with over 120 research institutes, developed and open-sourced more than 330 models. 5,000+ enterprises are using MindSpore as their AI framework to develop industry-specific applications. In June, Biren Technology, MetaX, yunkecn, Qian He Capital Management, and several other enterprises joined the MindSpore community. Through community partnerships, we can create more industry-specific AI solutions and boost business development. Community Development Overview (1H 2022) Since the beginning of this year, MindSpore has achieved remarkable things. 1. Certified with AIC4 and CC EAL2+ criteria, proving MindSpore's robustness and trustworthiness. 2. MindSpore's major partner Huawei launched its first open source cloud-native AI satellite application solution to facilitate satellite applications. 3. Successfully held the MindSpore TechDay to celebrate the second anniversary of MindSpore. A total of 1.27+ million people watched the live and replay online. 4. Two new versions have been released to enable scientific research and industry application innovation. Our sincere thanks are extended to all developers who have contributed to MindSpore.
